Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) has developed a comprehensive, evidence-based blueprint to advance agricultural productivity and human capacity development in Zamfara State.
The proposal was presented to Governor Dauda Lawal during his visit to commission an upgraded Departmental Library at ABU’s Department of Political Science and International Studies.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, explained that the blueprint was designed through ABU’s leading agricultural research institutes, IAR, NAPRI, and NAERLS, alongside the Institute of Education and the Institute of Administration.
The framework integrates crop research, climate resilience, livestock innovation, last-mile delivery of extension services, and human capacity development into a single strategic agenda for the state.
Prof. Ahmed emphasised that the interventions, delivered primarily through ABU’s Distance Learning Centre, will employ a train-the-trainers model to strengthen crop and livestock productivity, build resilience to climate shocks, and enhance institutional capacity across ministries, cooperatives, civil service, and teacher services.
The blueprint also targets comprehensive training for senior, middle, and top civil service cadres to transform service delivery.
Governor Lawal lauded ABU for the initiative, noting its alignment with his administration’s merit-based reforms and capacity-building priorities. He expressed gratitude to the University for its support in shaping both the state and his personal development, and he committed to continuing to give back to his alma mater.
