Prof Oyesoji Aremu, named as the Acting VC of Achievers University in Owo
Achievers University in Owo, Ondo State, has named Professor Oyesoji Aremu as its Acting Vice-Chancellor. His appointment, approved by the institution’s Governing Council, took effect on 1 December and will run for an initial period of eight months.
Professor Aremu joined the University in April 2024 as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic). Before then, he headed the Distance Learning Centre at the University of Ibadan, where he also taught in the Department of Counselling and Human Development Studies. He is widely regarded for his work in security studies, human development and higher education administration.
The University says the appointment is aimed at providing stability and strengthening leadership as it pursues reforms, expands academic programmes and seeks greater global visibility. Professor Aremu has been recognised nationally and internationally for his academic contributions and mentorship.
His elevation has been received positively within the university community, with staff and students describing him as a forward-looking administrator expected to build on ongoing initiatives.
In its announcement, the Governing Council expressed confidence in his ability to steer the institution through the transition, citing his record of integrity and commitment to academic excellence. Messages of congratulations have since come in from colleagues, alumni and institutional partners.
