Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED) has moved to debunk a viral online story claiming that some of its graduates, mobilised for the one-year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Gombe State, were involved in a fatal road accident.
The university said the report, which circulated widely on social media on Monday, December 1, 2025, was unsubstantiated and misleading. Management immediately contacted security agencies, including the Nigeria Police and the Federal Road Safety Corps, as well as print and electronic media, to verify the claims.
One of the alleged victims, a graduate heading to Gombe, confirmed she was involved in a minor crash along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway while travelling to Abuja. She sustained no injuries and has since safely joined her colleagues at the Gombe NYSC camp. Only the driver and another passenger were reported injured.
AFUED management urged media outlets to adhere strictly to journalistic ethics, emphasising accuracy, fairness, and objectivity. It appealed to the public to disregard the false story, describing it as “fake news without any iota of truth.”
