Senator Ekong Sampson has rolled out N100 million in educational grants for 500 students across Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District. Each beneficiary will receive N200,000, with the complete list to be published.
Speaking at the Eket Local Government Secretariat, Sampson positioned the initiative as a strategic investment in human capital. He stated that education remains the backbone of sustainable development and warned that any society that downplays learning risks long-term stagnation.
He disclosed that the intervention is his second since assuming office, noting that he ignored advice to divert funds into more politically popular items such as tricycles. Instead, he prioritised education, arguing that only knowledge-driven empowerment can secure the district’s future.
Sampson, who chairs the Senate Committee on Solid Minerals, reaffirmed his legislative commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s education sector.
He highlighted his sponsorship of bills establishing the Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi, and the Federal University of Medical Sciences, as well as his support for the Federal University of Maritime Studies.
Chairman of the Empowerment Committee, Ini Ikott, described the initiative as a clear demonstration of the senator’s focus on youth advancement and long-term human capital development.
