The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members participating in Saturday’s Anambra governorship election of their safety and timely payment of allowances.
INEC Chairman, Prof Joash Amupitan, gave the assurance on Wednesday in Awka while addressing journalists, noting that the welfare of corps members serving as ad hoc staff remains a top priority.
He emphasised that the Commission had made all necessary provisions for the election, including logistics and payments. “Nobody will hold back their allowances. Everything needed for this election has been provided,” Amupitan stated.
He added that corps members would work in uniform to distinguish them from partisan actors, describing them as vital stakeholders in the electoral process.
On security, the INEC boss said the
Police and other security agencies had finalised measures to protect all personnel on election duty. “Security operatives are already on the ground and will continue to mop up areas to ensure safety for voters and officials,” he added.
Amupitan reassured INEC of its commitment to a secure, transparent, and credible election process.
