The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, Prof Mohammed Laminu Mele, has lauded the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) for prioritising staff welfare through the renovation and construction of the perimeter wall of its Secretariat.
Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Services), Prof Mohammed Ahmed Waziri, the vice-chancellor gave the commendation during a courtesy visit by the ASUU National President, Prof Christopher Piwuna, on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.
In his remarks, Piwuna praised the UNIMAID ASUU branch chairperson, Dr Abubakar Saidu Mshelia, for his commitment to the welfare of the members. He described the branch as a model of effective leadership and collective action in advancing the interests of academic staff nationwide.
Welcoming the national president, Saidu reaffirmed the branch’s commitment to enhancing working conditions, improving health benefits, and promoting overall staff well-being.
The visit concluded with the commissioning of the Secretariat’s perimeter wall and the formal dedication of its renovation.
