The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of academic and non-academic unions in Bauchi State-owned tertiary institutions has raised an alarm over unexplained salary shortfalls for some staff members.
Addressing reporters on Thursday, JAC Chairman Abubakar Ahmed confirmed that the state government had approved and commenced implementing 90 per cent of the new salary structures under COMPCASS and CONTEDISS, effective June 2025. Ahmed, while describing the development as a significant milestone for staff across the state’s tertiary institutions, stated that some workers had received salaries with unexplained deductions.
“It has come to our notice that some staff received their June 2025 salaries with shortfalls ranging from N2,000 to as high as N40,000. We are confident that this was not intentional and may have resulted from computation or transmission errors. We respectfully request the urgent attention of the relevant authorities to investigate and address these anomalies so that affected staff are fully paid what is due to them,” he said.
The union leader also reiterated JAC’s concerns over the Bauchi State Contributory Pension Scheme, saying that specific provisions of the policy remain unfavourable to workers. “While we support policies that guarantee retirement security, we are concerned about some provisions that are anti-worker, especially in the area of pension administration after retirement. JAC has officially communicated its reservations to the Head of Service, and we once again call on the government to re-examine the scheme in the best interest of workers,” Ahmed added.
