China to Launch Cultural Language Centre at UNIPORT

The Chinese Government is set to establish a Chinese Centre at the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), Rivers State, to foster cultural exchange and educational collaboration between China and Nigeria.

The announcement was made by China’s Consul-General in Lagos, Yan Yuqing, during a visit to the university, where he was represented by Professor Liu Hongwu, Director of the Institute of African Studies at Zhejiang Normal University.

The new centre will offer students at UNIPORT access to Chinese language resources, training, and academic opportunities.

Liu Hongwu shared that the initiative is part of a larger effort to deepen Nigeria-China relations by introducing Nigerians to Chinese culture and education through a platform called ‘China Window.’

This platform will enable Nigerians to gain a deeper understanding of China and its cultural, educational, and economic landscape.

The Vice-Chancellor of UNIPORT, Professor Owunari Georgewill, expressed gratitude for the initiative, noting that establishing the Chinese Centre would enhance the university’s academic offerings and open up new opportunities for students.
