The Vice-Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Prof Kate Azuka Omenugha, has met with leaders of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union to discuss staff welfare and institutional reforms.
The meeting, held on November 17, provided a platform for both unions and management to align on priorities. Omenugha thanked the unions for opting for dialogue and assured staff that grievances would be addressed through constructive engagement.
Responding to earlier demands submitted to the Governing Council, she noted that her assumption of office as substantive vice-chancellor places her in a stronger position to resolve outstanding issues. She also confirmed plans to review the proposed examination-based assessment for non-teaching staff, stressing that it would be voluntary and targeted at professional development.
Omenugha said her administration is committed to reforms in teaching, learning and result management, aimed at raising the University’s operational standards. She reaffirmed staff welfare as a top priority and directed unions to maintain proper documentation to support decision-making.
The meeting ended on a positive note, with union leaders expressing support for continued collaboration.
