The Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled November 17 for judgment in a sexual harassment case involving suspended University of Calabar lecturer, Prof Cyril Ndifon.
Justice James Omotosho set the date after lawyers for the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the defence adopted their final written submissions. Ndifon, the former Dean of the Faculty of Law at UNICAL, and his co-defendant, Sunny Anyanwu, are accused of sexually harassing female students.
Ndifon concluded his defence by calling two witnesses: himself as the first defence witness and CSP Babagana Mingali, a forensic analyst at the Office of the National Security Adviser, as the second. The ICPC had charged the duo with sexual harassment, cybercrime, and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
The allegations include Ndifon asking a female diploma student, identified as TKJ, to send “pornographic, indecent and obscene photographs” via WhatsApp. Anyanwu, previously a member of Ndifon’s legal team, was accused of threatening the student during the pendency of the case. Both pleaded not guilty.
Justice Omotosho had earlier dismissed a no-case submission by the defendants in March 2024, ruling that the prosecution had established a prima facie case. The ICPC closed its case against Anyanwu on February 14, 2024.
