Covenant University Organises Simple Talk on Cybersecurity and Quantum Computing

The Physics Department at Covenant University hosted a seminar on Friday, May 16, 2025, to educate students about the future of cybersecurity and quantum computing. The speaker was Mr. Ewalouwa Michael Adeniji, a past student of the school who finished just three years ago.

Mr. Adeniji spoke on the topic: “Cybersecurity in the Age of Quantum Computing: Opportunities for Physicists.” He explained that quantum computers are extremely powerful and can solve big problems much faster than traditional computers because they use something called qubits instead of the usual 0s and 1s.

He added that this new kind of computer can be very useful in protecting information online or from any kind of cybertheft. Mr. Adeniji also advised university students to learn how to write computer programmes and utilise tools that keep computers safe. He advised them to start learning early by taking online classes and earning certificates in subjects such as C++ programming and Cisco networking. He said these skills helped him succeed in his work. “There is a place for everyone in tech, you just need to be ready to learn and improve,” he said.

The seminar ended with a question-and-answer session. Students asked many good questions and got helpful answers. The Head of Department, Dr Theophilus Adagunodo, thanked Mr. Adeniji and said the event was beneficial. He also thanked the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Timothy Anake, for his support of the programme. Students left the seminar feeling happy, inspired, and more motivated to pursue careers in the fields of cybersecurity and quantum computing.
