DUFUHS VC Honoured With NMA Distinguished Service Award

The Vice-Chancellor of David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences (DUFUHS), Dist. Prof. Jesse Uneke, has been awarded the “Distinguished Service Award” by the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Ebonyi State branch, for his outstanding contribution to medical education in Nigeria.


The recognition took place at the Re-Meritona Hotel in Abakaliki during the 2025 Physicians’ Week, attended by dignitaries from across the state. Prof. Uneke, represented by Deputy Vice Chancellor-Administration, Prof. Mrs Nkiruka Folaranmi, expressed gratitude for the honour and reaffirmed his commitment to advancing medical training and healthcare delivery.


Folaranmi praised Uneke’s leadership, noting his impact on DUFUHS’ growth and his role in training dental and medical professionals poised to achieve global recognition. She emphasised that the award reflects his distinguished career, research excellence, and dedication to societal development.


NMA Ebonyi Chairman, Dr Charles Maduba, commended members and awardees for their contributions to the profession, while highlighting the state government’s support in strengthening healthcare delivery.


Other university officials described Uneke as an accomplished researcher and visionary leader whose initiatives foster collaboration, advance national health priorities, and create a thriving environment for staff and students.
