The Ebonyi State government has praised its ranking as third in the 2024 National Examination Council (NECO) Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), attributing the achievement to Governor Francis Nwifuru’s strong education policies.
A Statisense analysis of NECO’s official results revealed that Ebonyi recorded an 80.55% pass rate, with 10,782 of 13,386 candidates earning five credits or more, including English Language and Mathematics. This performance placed the state among the top three, following Abia (83.4%) and Imo (80.98%).
Commissioner for Information and State Orientation Jude Okpor expressed pride in the state’s performance. “This academic stride, no gainsaying, represents a plausible gauge of the endearing educational policies of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s administration,” he said. Okpor noted that the result reflects Nwifuru’s consistent investments in education and serves as a testament to the wisdom of Ebonyi’s electorate in choosing him as Governor.
Okpor described the feat as “a tip of the iceberg,” signalling more achievements as Nwifuru’s administration nears its second anniversary in May 2025. “Better is not good enough; the best is yet to come,” he added, urging Ebonyians to continue supporting and praying for the Governor.
The 2024 NECO SSCE, held between June and July 2024, saw 1,367,736 candidates nationwide, with 828,284 (60.55%) achieving five credits or more, including English and Mathematics.
Ebonyi’s rise from 11th to 3rd place nationally has drawn widespread praise, with stakeholders attributing the success to Governor Nwifuru’s emphasis on improving educational infrastructure and prioritising teacher welfare.
