The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has established an advanced cybercrime research centre to strengthen the fight against financial and online crimes in Nigeria.
EFCC Chairman, Mr Ola Olukoyede, announced this on Wednesday while delivering the 17th Convocation Lecture of Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun State, titled “Beyond Degrees: Cultivating Purpose, Resilience and Service in a Complex World.”
Olukoyede said the new centre would focus on developing advanced fraud detection technologies, supporting policy development, and promoting youth empowerment through digital literacy.
He warned young people against engaging in internet fraud, popularly known as “yahoo-yahoo,” urging them to remain disciplined, resilient, and purposeful. “On no account must you yield to the pressure to get rich quickly,” he said. “Wealth earned through crooked means never lasts.”
The EFCC boss advised graduates to hold firmly to their dreams, stressing that personal integrity remains key to success. “No matter how brilliant or talented you are, without honesty and truth, you may not go far,” he added.
Redeemer’s University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shadrach Akindele, commended Olukoyede for his lecture, describing it as a call for young Nigerians to pursue success with honesty, courage, and accountability.
