Top Egyptian universities are in Nigeria for the third Egypt–Nigeria Educational Fair, aimed at boosting academic cooperation and attracting more Nigerian students to study in Egypt.
The week-long fair, which began in Abuja on September 15, will also visit Kaduna, Zaria and Kano. Participating institutions include Cairo University, Ain Shams University, El-Galala University and Badr University.
Egypt’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Mohamed Fouad, opened the event, stating that education had long been a central aspect of relations between the two countries. He pointed to Al-Azhar University’s centuries-old tradition of hosting Nigerian students.
Organisers say the fair will expand scholarship opportunities and research partnerships, while positioning Egypt as a competitive destination for Nigerian students seeking affordable international study.
With more than 1.9 million candidates applying to Nigerian universities in 2024 and only a fraction gaining admission, demand for higher education remains high. Analysts say the fair also highlights the economic dimension, with Egypt benefiting from foreign exchange inflows and closer bilateral ties.
