Parents of students at the Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), Kano State, have criticised the ₦750,000 fee set for the Intent to Graduate and Clearance Process.
In a memo titled ‘Reminder for the Completion of Intent to Graduate and Clearance Process,’ released on November 18, 2025, Dr Hamza Garba, the Vice President (VP), Campus Life, stated, “I am directed by the management to remind you that the deadline for completing the Intent to Graduate and Clearance Process remains November 30 2025.”
He noted that the process required payment of ₦750,000, and that failure to pay before the deadline would delay the processing of results, the submission of students to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for mobilisation, and their graduation.
Responding to the news, Dr Abubakar Dahiru Mohammed, a parent, said the university’s management justified its status as a private institution after the complainant complained about the fee.
Mohammed expressed, “Once a student completes his studies and pays his tuition and examination fee, it is his right to be stated results. Moreover, to hold him back from NYSC is another crime.”
