Outgoing Vice-Chancellor of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Prof Noah Yusuf, says the institution has been ranked among the top 1,500 universities globally, 15th in Nigeria, and 3rd in the North Central zone, marking a milestone achievement during his tenure. Speaking at the end of his term, Prof Yusuf credited two strategic committees, led by Prof. Malomo and Prof Sunday Awe, for positioning the university for global rankings. Before their work, Al-Hikmah was not listed in any ranking, local or international.
He highlighted other milestones achieved between July 2020 and July 2025, including the full NUC accreditation of 55 academic programmes, improved infrastructure across three campuses, and the digitalisation of academic and administrative processes. Notable achievements include the establishment of a Centre for Peace and Security Studies, which has trained top military and police officers, traditional rulers, and diplomats; the launch of a university medical school with NUC-approved MBBS programme; and the introduction of sabbatical and inaugural lecture policies.
Under his leadership, over 50 academic staff earned PhDs, and five were promoted to Reader status. The university also initiated a robust staff development programme, established an internal research committee, and formed partnerships with institutions in Nigeria, Ghana, Tunisia, and India. He acknowledged the support of founder Alh. Abdulraheem Oladimeji urged his successor, Prof. Folorunsho Oladimeji, to sustain the growth trajectory. Prof. Yusuf concluded by appealing to the Federal Government to include private universities in TETFund support, proposing a 70:30 allocation ratio that favours public institutions.
