The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is taking bold steps to help young students become business owners by using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to grow their skills.
This was announced during the final event of the FCT School Entrepreneurship, Innovation, Exhibition, and Award programme, held in Abuja. The Executive Secretary of the FCT Education Secretariat, Dr Danlami Hayyo, said the event was a celebration of creativity and future leaders. He praised the students, teachers, and organisers for their efforts, saying the goal of the programme is to make education more practical and problem-solving focused. “AI is not just for rich countries, it is something we must embrace to help our children build smarter businesses and find faster solutions to real-life problems”, he said.
Dr Hayyo noted that the students participating in the exhibition are not just schoolchildren, but the future CEOs, tech experts, and policymakers of Nigeria. He promised that the government would continue to support and provide opportunities for them to grow and develop.
Also speaking at the event, Dr Olobashola Kolawole, Director of the FCT Department of Science, Technology, and Innovation, stated that the programme aims to nurture the creative and entrepreneurial minds of students. He also launched The Young Innovator’s Magazine to showcase their work. “AI can help young entrepreneurs launch products faster, cut down costs, and grow their businesses smarter,” he said.
Dr Udofia Elizabeth Enefiok, Head of School Entrepreneurship in FCT, added that in today’s economy, entrepreneurship is not optional but necessary. She said schools must teach students how to turn ideas into successful businesses. In the end, Government Science and Technical School, Garki, Area 3, Abuja, won first place among 10 schools that made it to the finals.
