Dr Olatunji Alausa, Minister of Education, unveils FTIGTP
The Federal Government has launched the Tertiary Institution Governance and Transparency Platform (FTIGTP), a digital system designed to promote transparency, accountability, and data-driven decision-making across Nigeria’s higher education sector.
The platform, unveiled by the Minister of Education, Dr Olatunji Alausa, in Abuja, aims to improve governance, enhance monitoring, and support performance-based funding in universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. According to the Ministry, the system will provide real-time visibility into student enrolment, staffing, and financial operations to ensure equitable resource allocation and curb inefficiencies.
Dr Alausa described the platform as a significant step toward modernising higher education management and aligning Nigeria’s tertiary institutions with global standards.
“FTIGTP will enable evidence-based policies, promote accountability, and ensure that government funding decisions are guided by accurate institutional data,” he said.
While the Minister also spoke about reforms to widen access to tertiary education, stakeholders have stressed that the success of the new platform will depend on consistent implementation, digital security, and institutional compliance.
Observers say the system could help reduce corruption and bureaucratic delays in the education sector, if deployed transparently and free from political interference.
