The Federal Government is partnering with the Giessen-Friedberg Chamber of Commerce (GCOC) in Germany to train and deploy skilled Nigerian graduates to meet Germany’s growing demand for manpower.
Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, disclosed this while receiving a GCOC delegation led by Dr Matthias Leder, noting that the initiative will leverage Nigeria’s revitalised Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system.
He said a technical working group will draft a Memorandum of Understanding to facilitate student assessment, certification, and visa processing for qualified candidates. “This is not brain drain; it is the export of Nigerian skills and expertise,” Alausa stated.
The minister revealed that 250,000 trainees have begun free Dual Mandate Training under the TVET programme, with plans to reach one million youths. Enrollment in technical colleges has surged by 400%, supported by World Bank-funded workshops across institutions.
Dr Leder commended Nigeria’s commitment to skills development, noting that the Dual Vocational Training model offers a sustainable path to industrial growth.
The partnership aims to produce globally competitive Nigerian artisans, technicians and engineers for both local and international industries.
