Prof. Michael Oladimeji Faborode, former Vice Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University
A former Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Prof. Michael Oladimeji Faborode, has noted the University of Ilorin’s efforts in strengthening research, technology, and gender inclusion.
Prof. Faborode observed during a visit by the National Executive Committee of the Nigerian Institute of Agricultural Engineers (NIAE) to UNILORIN ahead of the institute’s 25th International Conference and 45th Annual General Meeting at the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation, Ilorin.
The delegation, led by UNILORIN’s Dean of Engineering, Prof. Joshua Olaoye, met with Vice Chancellor Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole. Faborode drew attention to the university’s creation of a Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Technology and Innovation) role, describing it as a strategic step to strengthen research capacity and innovation.
The visit also included Prof. Kehinde Taiwo Adekunbi, Chair of Women in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (WABEN), who highlighted UNILORIN’s efforts to increase female participation in engineering and academic leadership through initiatives like the Centre for Gender Studies.
Prof. Egbewole, represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Moji Bakare-Odunola, said the university aims to expand global partnerships, promote inclusion, and enhance research and technology transfer.
The NIAE gathering brings together academics and industry stakeholders to discuss agricultural engineering, mechanisation, and professional development in Nigeria.
