Alake of Egbaland Hosts FUNAAB Governing Council to Celebrate Academic Milestones

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) marked its recent academic milestones with a special royal dinner hosted by the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, His Royal Majesty Oba (Dr.) Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, Okukenu IV, on 2 December at the historic Ake Palace.

The gathering brought together members of FUNAAB’s Governing Council, Management, traditional rulers, and high-ranking officials to celebrate the reintroduction of Management Sciences programmes and the expansion of frontier science courses. The developments are seen as significant achievements for Nigeria’s higher education sector.

Oba Gbadebo praised FUNAAB for its resilience and dedication to academic excellence, noting that reinstating the Management programmes offers new opportunities for students and reflects the University’s commitment to overcoming regulatory challenges.

The Pro-Chancellor, Oba Rasheed Ayotunde Olomi, lauded the monarch for his support and emphasised the role of strategic leadership and institutional cooperation in restoring the programmes. Vice-Chancellor Professor Babatunde Kehinde explained that the reinstatement followed compliance with National Universities Commission regulations, accreditations, and reforms.

The dinner also highlighted the launch of the Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences, Abeokuta (FUMMSA), which has broadened FUNAAB’s academic offerings and visibility. The event reinforced the collaboration between traditional institutions and academia, celebrating FUNAAB’s growth, innovation, and contributions to national development.
