Prof Adenike Oladiji, the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), has frowned at the increasing rate of ritualistic abuse, especially against women by sexual offenders.
She noted that negative peer pressure and the desire to meet societal expectations at all costs are partly responsible for the upsurge. Prof. Oladiji made this known at a seminar organised by the Guidance and Counselling Unit, Students’ Affairs Division, FUTA, for female students.
While highlighting the importance of striving for greatness, she emphasised the need for moderation and the regulation of desires within reasonable limits, to avoid poor choices that could lead to a lifetime of regret. To further reduce crimes such as rape and organ harvesting, Prof Oladiji advised the students to be cautious about the friends they make online. She also urged the government to strengthen the laws governing organ harvesting, stalking, rape, and other sexual crimes.
