The Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA), and the Federal Medical Centre, Bida (FMCB), have signed an agreement to establish a new College of Health Sciences. The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) happened on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at the medical centre in Bida, Niger State.
Speaking at the event, Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta, the Vice-Chancellor of FUTMINNA, expressed happiness that the partnership is now official. He called it the beginning of a new chapter and stated that the university plans to start training students in the next academic session. He also noted that the programme will follow all proper academic and professional guidelines.
The Medical Director of FMC Bida, Dr Abubakar Usman, also shared his excitement. He said the medical centre is focused on service, training, and research, and that this new college will help train more health workers. According to him, Nigeria needs more medical professionals because many are leaving the country to work abroad.
Other team members from FMCB praised the leaders of both institutions for pushing the programme forward quickly. They stated that continuous training is crucial in the healthcare sector and that the new college will provide more opportunities for learning and research. Mrs. Fausat Fadeke Danmallam, who heads Planning, Research, and Statistics at FMCB, gave the vote of thanks. She appreciated the FUTMINNA team and prayed for the success of the partnership. The event ended with the official signing of the MoU and a tour of the Antenatal Clinic and Gynaecology Emergency Unit.
