IAR Celebrates Professor Sharifai Becoming an ASN Fellow

The Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR) at Ahmadu Bello University has celebrated Professor Aminu Ibrahim Sharifai, a leading agronomist and Assistant Director of Extension, Monitoring and Evaluation, following his conferment as a Fellow of the Agricultural Society of Nigeria (ASN).

The recognition, awarded at the 59th Annual Conference of the Agricultural Society of Nigeria (ASN), held at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, highlights Prof. Sharifai’s decades-long work in advancing sustainable farming practices and supporting farmers across Nigeria.

Colleagues at IAR describe him as a scholar who “turns research into results on the ground,” bridging scientific innovation with practical solutions that improve crop yields and farmers’ livelihoods. His initiatives in farmer training and field extension have had a direct impact on communities in Northern and Southern Nigeria.

In his remarks, Prof. Sharifai reflected on the journey: “Agriculture is more than crops; it is about people, communities, and ensuring that our research serves those who feed the nation.”

The fellowship is seen as a testament not only to his academic excellence but also to his enduring commitment to translating knowledge into tangible benefits for farmers and the wider society. IAR staff and students celebrated the achievement, noting it as an inspiration for the next generation of agricultural researchers.
