The Director of Sports at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBUL), Prof Mohammed Aliyu, has commended the university management for its continued support of sports development and pledged a record-breaking performance at the forthcoming 2025 Nigerian University Games (NUGA) in Jos.
Speaking after IBBUL’s strong showing at the pre-NUGA trials in Abuja, Aliyu said the university’s athletes performed excellently despite limited participation, securing several medals and qualification for the main event.
He revealed that camping would commence immediately in Lapai to prepare for the games scheduled for November 5, assuring that the institution would deliver a strong outing. “We have never gone for any competition and come back empty-handed. This time, we are coming back with gold,” he said confidently.
Aliyu praised the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof Mohammed Hadi Sulaiman, for his commitment to sports and thanked coaches, medical staff, and students for their dedication. IBBUL excelled in track events, taekwondo, tennis, and shot-put during the Abuja trials, missing out only in football and basketball.
