The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), in partnership with Connecting the Unconnected EMEA (CTU-EMEA) and Baze University, Abuja, will host a landmark digital connectivity summit on November 27-28, 2025.
The event, themed “Bridging Digital Frontiers: African Solutions for Universal Connectivity,” aims to connect the 2.9 billion people worldwide who are currently without internet access.
The summit will gather over 200 global leaders, including ministers, regulators, CEOs, and technology innovators, to discuss strategies for expanding internet access, particularly in Africa.
Key topics include innovative infrastructure deployment, policy frameworks, financing models, emerging technologies such as 5G/6G and satellite networks, and digital transformation case studies across smart cities, e-government, fintech, and agriculture.
IEEE Nigeria Section Chair, Prof. Ifeayinwa Achumba, and General Conference Chair, Chukwuemeka Gerald Okafor, highlighted the summit’s historic significance as Nigeria’s first major CTU-EMEA international conference. Baze University officials, led by Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) Prof. Osita, pledged world-class facilities and support, noting that the event enhances the university’s global visibility and provides students with access to expertise.
With 2.9 billion people globally still offline, the summit addresses critical digital divides, including gender disparities, and highlights the economic benefits of connectivity. Research shows that every 10% increase in internet penetration boosts per capita GDP by 1.2% in emerging markets.
