Imo Assembly Applauds Uzodimma for New University

Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State

The Imo State House of Assembly has commended Governor Hope Uzodimma for establishing the Imo University of Science, Innovation, and Technology in Omuma.

The commendation followed a motion by the Chief Whip, Chigozie Nwaneri (APC–Oru East), during Thursday’s plenary in Owerri. Nwaneri described the university as a lasting legacy that secures the future of Imo’s younger generation and strengthens the state’s educational foundation.

He praised Uzodimma’s commitment to revitalising education through infrastructure upgrades and the creation of new tertiary institutions, noting that the National Universities Commission (NUC) has already approved the establishment of the new university. “The institution will position Imo at the forefront of science, innovation, and technology, offering opportunities for global research and development,” Nwaneri said.

Other lawmakers, including Uba Esile (APC–Onuimo), Kanayo Onyemaechi (APC–Owerri West), and Chisom Ojikwu (APC–Nkwerre), supported the motion and called for an award recognising Uzodimma as Nigeria’s most education-friendly governor.

Deputy Speaker Amarachi Iwuanyanwu directed the Clerk to forward the Assembly’s resolution to the governor’s office.
