The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Oloyede, has dismissed claims of a conspiracy against a section of the country following the technical glitch recorded during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The glitch, which disrupted the examination process in Lagos and the five Southeastern states, led to allegations that the Board had deliberately compromised the results of candidates from the Southeastern region. However, speaking at a meeting with JAMB management ahead of the release of results for the rescheduled UTME on Wednesday, Professor Oloyede denied the allegation, describing it as baseless. He reiterated that all candidates are Nigerians and deserve equal treatment, stressing that there was no intention to undermine students from any part of the country.
The Registrar also described as regrettable the death of a candidate during the conduct of the examination. A minute’s silence was observed at the meeting in honour of the deceased.
Professor Oloyede’s clarification comes amid calls from various quarters, including lawmakers from the Southeast zone, demanding his resignation over the technical issues which affected over 300,000 students.
