The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has discovered 9,469 fake admissions given by 20 schools in Nigeria for the 2024 academic session. JAMB stated that these admissions were conducted outside its official platform, the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS), which helps ensure fairness and transparency in university admissions.
Kano State University of Science and Technology topped the list with 2,215 illegal admissions. Others include Ladoke Akintola University (1,215), Gombe State University (1,164), and Emmanuel Alayande University of Education (761). JAMB warned that students admitted outside CAPS will not be allowed to join the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, also stated that all such admissions are illegal. He warned that schools and staff involved will face severe punishment, including the loss of assets and possible court action.JAMB urged institutions to stop bypassing CAPS to avoid these penalties.
