Comrade Baba Abubakar Umar, the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Private and Voluntary Institutions Board (KSPVIB), has announced plans to begin monitoring, evaluation, and quality assurance visits to private schools across the state next week.
He announced the Kano Sterling Schools Connect Tour Programme, organised by the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS).
He emphasised that the initiative aims to ensure the consistent enforcement of minimum standards and the delivery of quality education across all private institutions. Comrade Umar also reiterated that education is the top priority of the current NNPP-led administration under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
He highlighted the state’s commitment to educational reform, noting a significant budgetary increase, with education receiving 29.5% of the state budget in 2024 and a further rise to 30.5% in 2025.
He called for the full cooperation of all stakeholders, including NAPPS, other educational associations, and private school proprietors, in supporting government efforts to provide quality and functional education.
According to Umar, private schools play a crucial role in the educational landscape, serving a significant portion of Kano’s student population, despite facing numerous challenges.
He also commended the proactive measures undertaken by the KSPVIB to enhance the quality of education in the state. He reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to continuous improvements aligned with the state’s educational objectives.
Also speaking at the event, Kano State Chairman of NAPPS, Alhaji Imam Ahmad Zubairu, assured parents that private schools remain committed to providing quality education and instilling sound discipline in students.
He urged parents to fulfil their responsibilities, particularly by paying school fees on time, to ensure continuous progress. In support of the state’s initiatives, the Chairman of the Association of Model Islamic Schools (AMIS), Barrister Dr Sa’eed Bello, commended Governor Yusuf’s dedication to revitalising the education sector and pledged AMIS’s cooperation in helping Kano achieve excellence in education.
