Hundreds of Diploma graduates of Lagos State University (LASU), the 2022/2023 set, have protested the university’s failure to grant the promised Direct Entry (DE) admission into degree programmes, despite meeting the required academic standards.
The affected students, in a statement obtained by SaharaReporters, said LASU has not acted fairly or transparently in the DE admission process, leaving many stranded even as lectures for the new session have begun. They noted that students with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.50 were guaranteed DE placement, with some achieving CGPAs above 4.30.
The statement called for: immediate consideration for all eligible students; placement in their courses of interest for those with a CGPA of 4.30 and above; closely related course allocation for students with a CGPA of 3.50 and above; prompt release of supplementary admission lists; and complete transparency on the screening criteria.
“We are not here to disrupt the institution but to demand justice, fairness, and the fulfilment of the promise made to us,” the statement said.
The students urged media, social justice advocates, and the public to support their cause, insisting that qualified graduates should not be denied entry into LASU’s degree programmes after meeting the stipulated requirements.
