Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, came alive as students, parents, and dignitaries gathered for its 15th combined convocation ceremony. The event turned into a celebration of progress as the Ogun State Government announced plans to invest N2 billion in the school.
Governor Dapo Abiodun, who spoke at the event held at the Ojere campus, stated that his government would soon commence a massive upgrade of the polytechnic. Some of the projects include building a 500-seater ultra-modern lecture hall, fixing the road to the auditorium, and constructing a new building for the Department of Accountancy. A modern library will also be built and fully equipped. To mark the occasion, the governor also presented the school with a new bus. He gave out N2.5 million each to the best-graduating students from the 2015 to 2024 sets, describing them as role models of academic excellence. “We are investing N2 billion in MAPOLY because we believe in quality education. This school has produced great minds who have helped develop our state and the country,” Abiodun said. He added that the decision to restore MAPOLY, after it was earlier relocated to Ipokia as Ogun State Polytechnic, was already yielding good results. According to him, the school is now active again and helping the youth prepare for the future. The governor encouraged the graduates to be bold, creative, and ready to lead change in their communities. He also stressed the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education in reducing unemployment. The chairman of the institution’s Governing Council, Emeritus Professor Kamarudeen Balogun, thanked the governor for his support and stated that the school would continue to grow stronger.
