It was a day of celebration, memories, and gratitude as the 1992 set of Methodist Secondary Grammar School, Oke-Arada, Ogbomoso, lit up the school grounds with a reunion to honour their former teachers and commission a new access gate, the first in the school’s history.
Held on Friday, the colourful event brought together old students, current learners, teachers, and notable dignitaries, including the National President of the alumni association, Mr. Abu, Bishop Moradeyo of the Methodist Church, Ogbomoso Diocese, Oba Bolarinwa Ezekiel Olajide (Onisapa of Isapa and a member of the ’92 set), and Comrade Toyin Ige, Chairman of NUT, Ogbomoso South. Dr. Adekunle Onilede, Chairman of the 1992 set, said the gathering was a heartfelt tribute to the teachers who shaped their lives. “These men and women mentored, inspired, and instilled in us the values of discipline, integrity, and hard work. Their impact is still visible in the lives we live today.”
He described the event as a “celebration of legacy,” noting that the school’s motto — Discipline, Industry, and Unity — played a significant role in the success of many in the group. Among us today are accomplished bankers, teachers, administrators, health professionals, engineers, businesspeople, traditional rulers, and more. These teachers laid the foundation,” he said. The highlight of the day was the unveiling of the school’s first-ever access gate, built and donated by a member of the ’92 set, Mr. Oyekunle Afon, and supervised by Mrs. Felicia Akinyoola. The gesture was applauded by all in attendance, with the set coordinator describing the project as “a symbol of gratitude and unity.”
In his remarks, Oba Olajide, the Onisapa of Isapa and royal father of the day, commended the ’92 set for their show of appreciation. “Today, we celebrate legacy, gratitude, and commitment to excellence. These teachers shaped destinies and planted seeds that have grown globally. The new gate gives our alma mater a fresh face of pride.”
Speaking on behalf of the school management, Vice Principal Mrs. R.T. Oyewale expressed appreciation for the continuous support from the alumni. “From the donation of a generator, printers, PA systems, renovation of classrooms, to payment of examination fees for needy students — and now this impressive gate — your contributions are shaping the future of our students,” she said.
Mr. Abu, the National President of the alumni body, hailed the ’92 set’s effort as “unprecedented” and encouraged other sets to follow suit. “Let us continue to raise the standard. Our alma mater needs us,” he urged.
