The Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria (MMWG) has criticised Bishop David Oyedepo over an alleged comment on the use of hijab at Landmark University, Omu-Aran, Kwara State.
In a statement signed by its National Missioner, Sheikh Abu Sheriff, the group said a viral video purportedly shows Oyedepo telling Muslim parents to withdraw their daughters if they insist on wearing hijab.
MMWG described the school’s hijab ban as a violation of Section 38 of the Nigerian Constitution, which guarantees freedom of religion. The group also alleged that Muslims are rarely employed at the university and that those hired are barred from observing prayers or fasting during Ramadan.
It maintained that banning hijab denies Muslim students their rights to both education and religious expression, and called for an end to policies it says restrict the faith and practices of Muslim students and staff.
