The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has responded to claims in a recent ASUP advert, highlighting inaccuracies regarding accreditation processes in Nigeria’s polytechnic sector.
NBTE emphasised that it pioneered digital accreditation in 2024, leveraging technology and Artificial Intelligence to eliminate past issues such as falsified data, insecurity during physical visits, and unethical practices like “brown envelopes.”
Over 90% of all accreditations are now conducted online. Physical accreditation continues in only under 10% of cases, such as institutions with poor internet access or weak ICT infrastructure.
Vendors, approved through a transparent process under the Public Procurement Act, have been engaged to conduct physical accreditations where needed. Monitoring and Evaluation exercises, including ASUP nominees, are ongoing to ensure compliance and transparency.
NBTE noted its role as a partner in progress, committed to strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a national development priority.
The Board also called on stakeholders to support the Federal Government’s initiatives to enhance TVET, improve skills acquisition and promote economic growth.
