The Nigerian Institute of Social and Economic Research (NISER) will on Tuesday, August 26 2025, hold its monthly Research Seminar Series (NRSS) with a focus on electricity pricing and affordability.
The session, themed “Balancing Electricity Tariffs and Consumers’ Wallets: Insights from Nigerian Households and Firms’ Ability to Pay,” will explore how tariff adjustments can be structured to reflect cost realities without overwhelming households and businesses.
Dr Hassan Mahmud, President of the Nigerian Association for Energy Economics, Abuja, will chair the hybrid event. Dr Ekundayo Mesagan, a senior faculty member at the School of Management and Social Sciences, Pan-Atlantic University, Lagos, will serve as discussant. At the same time, Dr Iyabo Olanrele, Senior Research Fellow at NISER’s Economic and Business Policy Department, will present the lead paper. The seminar will take place at the NISER Conference Room in Ibadan and online via Zoom.
NISER said the monthly series provides a forum for academics, policymakers, and industry players to engage in evidence-based dialogue that can guide policy formulation in Nigeria and across Africa. Registration details have been made available for virtual and physical participants.
