The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has facilitated the donation of engineering software worth $17.4 million to 15 Nigerian universities by Midas IT of India, aimed at boosting civil, structural and geotechnical engineering education.
Speaking at the presentation in Abuja, NSE President, Margaret Oguntala, said the partnership would strengthen the link between academia and industry, equipping students with advanced design and analysis tools to meet global engineering standards.
Under the initiative, each university received 25 licenses for MIDAS Civil, MIDAS Gen, and MIDAS GTS NX software. Oguntala urged the beneficiaries to maximise the opportunity to improve teaching, research and practical learning outcomes.
Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, described the gesture as a strategic investment in Nigeria’s engineering future, aligning with the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda on quality infrastructure.
Midas IT’s Africa and UAE Director, Naga Ravi Kiran Anne, said the initiative was designed to “catch them young” by empowering students with modern tools essential for real-world engineering applications.
Fifteen universities, including UNN, UI, ABU, and FUT Owerri, benefited from the donation.
