Brig. Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, DG of NYSC with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State
The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig. Gen. Olakunle Nafiu has urged Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to address the inadequate water supply at the NYSC orientation camp in Karaye, citing health risks and operational challenges.
Speaking during a visit to the Governor’s office, Nafiu also called for expanding the camp’s multi-purpose hall, which is currently insufficient for lectures and indoor activities. He further requested the constitution of the NYSC State Governing Board and Local Government Committees to ease administration.
Nafiu noted that more than 12,000 corps members serve across Kano’s 44 local government areas, with 75% deployed to public schools. The state also hosts NYSC medical personnel, including doctors, pharmacists, and nurses.
He commended the government for supporting corps members through hostel renovations, feeding augmentation, and emergency assistance.
Governor Yusuf appreciated the contributions of corps members to Kano’s socio-economic development. He pledged to dispatch experts to assess and promptly commence renovations of the orientation camp, ensuring the welfare and safety of all participants.
