A Nigerian teenager from Ogun State has had his ambition of attending university fully funded after excelling in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Sodiq Anuoluwapo Shoyode, 17, achieved one of the highest scores nationwide, with top marks in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. His performance caught the attention of Alhaji Kamorudeen Yusuf, Personal Assistant on Special Duties to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who offered to sponsor his higher education.
Before starting his Mechanical Engineering degree at the University of Ibadan, Shoyode completed a six-month ICT and software development course at GOMYCODE, Lagos, with accommodation, a laptop, and daily stipends provided by Yusuf.
Shoyode expressed gratitude for the support, saying he is motivated to excel academically and make his benefactor proud. His family has also benefited from Yusuf’s assistance, including the refurbishment and equipping of his mother’s tailoring business, helping to provide income for the household.
The scholarship underscores the importance of targeted interventions in opening up opportunities for talented students from underprivileged backgrounds, thereby providing them with a pathway to higher education and future career prospects.
