Mrs. Celestine Otieno-Lumumba, guest speaker at the 50th anniversary of UNILORIN
Mrs Celestine Otieno-Lumumba, the guest speaker at the 50th anniversary of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Kwara State, has charged women to be proactive, emphasising that they should seize opportunities rather than wait to be handed them.
She said, “Do not give up. Be at the forefront. Do not wait to be called to the table; no one will call you. Take yourself to the table and make a difference just like the men are doing.”
According to her, the academic world is for everyone; hence, women must organise themselves as well as their male counterparts.
Clarifying the statement, she said, “I am not saying men are better organisers in terms of these things than women. So women should organise themselves and excel in academia just like the men are excelling.”
