Prof. Sandra Chidinma Duru, Nigerian-American public-policy scholar
Nigerian-American public-policy scholar Prof. Sandra Chidinma Duru has gained recognition for her work on gender, media reform, and governance ethics across Africa and the diaspora.
Born in Imo State, Duru launched her first NGO at 17 and has since contributed to strategic communications, governance research, youth leadership, and public-health initiatives.
She earned a PhD in Public Policy & Administration from African American University in 2025, examining the weaponisation of gender-based laws in public administration.
Prof. Duru serves as President/CEO of Mgbeke Village Hut LLC in Texas, leads the Students & Youth Leadership Integrity Programme, and coordinated the National Campaign Against Political and Gender-Based Disinformation (2023–2025).
She has consulted for the Nigerian Police Force Gender Unit and has contributed to policy frameworks for the African Union and national agencies.
Her academic and professional achievements include multiple publications, the creation of Project TruthShield, the production of the Lie-Tasha documentary series, and hosting media programmes such as Bare It Out With Prof. Mgbeke and TUFF Connect With Sandra Duru.
In 2025, she received the Overall Best PhD Graduating Student Merit Award from African American University, alongside accolades from global organisations including Transparency International Africa and the Global Women Leaders Forum.
Her work continues to influence governance reform, gender politics, and strategic communications across Nigeria, the United States, and the wider African diaspora.
