A video from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in Jos has gone viral after showing a soldier confronting a corps member who arrived in a white pleated skirt instead of the official shorts.
The footage, shared widely on TikTok, sparked confusion among viewers about the corps member’s identity. Some suggested the individual was a woman, possibly a Jehovah’s Witness observing religious dress codes, while others insisted it was a man in a skirt.
The clip quickly drew reactions online. TikTok user @EllaGold wrote, “Wait, na guy o,” while @Kimberlyᥫ᭡ added, “I literally saw this guy on camp.” Another user, @Otaibayomi, referenced the location: “Mangu Camp… una no even wear gloves and joggers under, una strong ooo.”
The NYSC mandates all participants to wear white shorts and shirts during orientation exercises, and deviations from the code often attract scrutiny from camp officials.
Neither the NYSC nor the Nigerian Army has stated the incident. However, the video has fuelled debate over dress codes, religious expression, and gender identity at orientation camps.
