To mark World Malaria Day, major health organisations, including Green Life Pharmaceuticals, Green Life Hospital, Seagreen Pharmaceutical, and Clearline HMO, came together at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) to launch a large-scale awareness and prevention campaign aimed at ending malaria in Nigeria.
The event, themed “Malaria Ends with Us: Reinvest, Reimagine, Reignite,” attracted hundreds of students and community members who received free malaria testing, prevention kits, and medication.
The campaign focused on educating young people about the symptoms of malaria, prevention methods, and the risks associated with drug abuse in health management.
Mr Peter Nwosu, Executive Director of Green Life Pharmaceuticals, stated the importance of this event not only as a day of awareness but as a meaningful effort to improve health in the community.
Dr Oghenerukevwe Peretomode from Clearline HMO emphasised that combating malaria requires the collective effort of everyone, including the government, communities, and individuals.
She called for increased funding, innovation, and education to help reduce malaria cases, noting that climate change is exacerbating the situation by creating conditions favourable for mosquitoes.
Mr Chris Ikeagu, General Manager of Green Life Hospital, stated that UNILAG was chosen to reach young people who can then spread the message in their homes and communities.
He stated that early education and proper treatment are crucial to defeating malaria.
The event left a strong message: With knowledge and effort from all, malaria can be ended in Nigeria.
