For many Nigerian students, agriculture remains a distant idea, far removed from everyday urban life. The Intergenerational Rescue Foundation (IRF) aims to change that with Agroween ’25, a festival designed to spark young people’s interest in sustainable farming.
Speaking, IRF Chairperson Mrs Bimbola Aghahowa said the event seeks to “bring students closer to the realities of food production, innovation, and community-driven solutions.” The festival, she explained, will showcase how agriculture can be a viable career and a tool for tackling food insecurity.
The event will feature workshops, interactive sessions, and the Agroween Recognition Awards, celebrating individuals who have transformed communities through sustainable agriculture and food initiatives. Confirmed attendees include former President Olusegun Obasanjo, agribusiness leaders like Tony Elumelu, and academics such as Prof. Desmond Majekodunmi and Prof. Funlola Oguwabi.
Prof. Samuel Adejoh, Head of Social Work at the University of Lagos, highlighted the focus on agricultural literacy, saying students will gain practical knowledge to make informed decisions as consumers and future entrepreneurs.
“This is about more than farming—it is about connecting young people to solutions for food security, innovation, and sustainable development,” Aghahowa said. Agroween ’25 will run alongside a series of awards recognising community-driven initiatives that advance Nigeria’s food systems.
