Health professionals in medical centres across Nigeria’s universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education have opted out of the ongoing strike by the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD).
Operating under the Coalition of Healthcare Professionals in Tertiary Education Institutions, the group, comprising doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and laboratory scientists, stated that all medical centres under the Federal Ministry of Education remain fully operational.
Coalition chairman Musa Shehu confirmed their stance, stressing that members are committed to patient care despite existing challenges in the sector. “We work under the Ministry of Education; naturally, we do not go on strike. Even if NMA or JOHESU are on strike, our centres remain open,” he said.
Shehu urged the public to access medical services at tertiary institution health centres nationwide while NARD’s strike persists.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has pledged to release ₦11.99 billion within 72 hours to settle outstanding arrears and allowances as part of efforts to end the doctors’ industrial action.
