President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved N158 billion to train 650,000 Nigerian youths in technical, vocational, and digital skills. The Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, announced this during the 42nd convocation and 50th anniversary of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.
She explained that the funding will be channelled into technical and vocational education training (TVET) to prepare young Nigerians for jobs in industries and the digital economy. According to her, the initiative shows the government’s commitment to improving youth welfare and reducing unemployment.
Ahmad also revealed that some universities, including Usmanu Danfodiyo University, are being connected to electricity through the Rural Electrification Agency to improve learning environments and research output.
During the ceremony, the university awarded honorary degrees to Sheikh Muhammad Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa and former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Faruk Yahaya (rtd.). At the same time, Prof. Dejo Abdulrahman received emeritus status. Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto praised the federal government’s support for education.
