Tinubu Eyes Qatar Model for Nigeria’s National Library

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed optimism that the National Library of Nigeria, once completed, will become a modern, digitised centre of knowledge and a source of national pride.

Speaking after a tour of the Qatar National Library in Doha, Mrs Tinubu said Nigeria hopes to draw inspiration from the Qatari model in developing a world-class facility that will serve as both a research hub and a repository of the nation’s history.

She described the Qatar National Library, home to over two million books and 500,000 e-books, as a monument to education and culture, commending its motto, “Free Access to Knowledge.”

The First Lady stressed the importance of preserving Nigeria’s cultural heritage and providing young people with access to resources that help them understand the nation’s history. Mrs Tinubu’s visit to the Qatar National Library marked her first engagement during her official trip to Doha.

She is expected to meet with officials of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development to explore partnerships addressing the challenges of out-of-school children and Almajiri education in Nigeria.
