Translational Research Institute Hosts Workshop

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Translational Research Institute has organised a workshop themed ‘Complementary by Design: A Mixed Methods Workshop to Optimise Your Research.’

The workshop was held to improve researchers’ capacity to use mixed-methods research, which combines qualitative and quantitative approaches to answer complex research questions.

Phase one of the workshop focused on the value of mixed-methods research, the types of mixed-methods research designs, and examples of mixed-methods studies. In contrast, phase two centred on roundtable discussions among moderators and attendees.

Cathleen Willging, PhD, the Centre Director and Senior Research Scientist at the Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation, said during her presentation, “Mixed Methods research helps produce impactful work that can improve public health.”
