UMTH Consultant Educates Girls on Breast Examination

Dr Usman Samuel Nganjuwa, a consultant with the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), Borno State, has shown girls and women how to conduct self-examination of their breasts.

Nganjuwa joined members of the Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN), Borno Chapter, and the North East Development Commission (NEDC) to educate them on the importance of self-examination for breast cancer awareness. The organisations teamed up to organise a sensitisation programme in commemoration of World Cancer Day, which falls in February.

Addressing the prevalent issue of breast cancer, they emphasised that early detection of lumps would facilitate rapid care and treatment before cancer spreads.

Dr Anna Peter, MWAN President, encouraged women to visit any nearby health facility if they notice blood-like discharge or abnormal bleeding after sexual intercourse.

Mohammed Umar, the NEDC State Coordinator, reaffirmed that the organisation is committed to empowering the sub-region with humanitarian services.
